Music is Hard 51: Play

This week:
This week, we were inspired by electronic dance music artist Deadmau5. Often, performances of electronic music (popular and “classical”) involve little or no input from live performers. What then, is the purpose of such a performance?

Correction: Morton Subotnick is a happy and productive 73-year-old American composer and innovator. He is not, as Dave incorrectly asserts in this episode, dead. We apologize for the error.

This week:
Making music is a long process. How do you know when you’re finished? How do you get from “almost there” to “Eureka! I’ve got it!”? Are there some problems that run too deep to tweak away?
